About Me

Hi! Yes, my actual name is Lauren (I've been told it's not the most Indonesian-sounding name, but I swear it's my real name!).

I am a 25 year old native Indonesian. Back in high school, I was lucky enough to land an opportunity to study abroad in the US as part of Rotary International's Student Exchange Program, during which I lived in Menomonie, WI, USA, for a year, and discovered that I had a knack for picking up new languages! And so when I graduated high school, I decided to pursue a degree in English Literature, and as of now, I'm a junior member of Indonesia's Translator Association (Himpunan Penerjemah Indonesia) and have spent the past couple years paving a career as a simultaneous and consecutive interpreter for various seminars, workshops, meetings, and webinars.

Given my passion for language learning, I started Indonesian with Lauren back in September 2022 on Instagram and TikTok, and to my pleasant surprise, the reception has been overwhelmingly heartwarming!

I eventually tried my hand at teaching on the side, and discovered that there was indeed a demand for an Indonesian course. However, you do not need to be a native, you just need an intermediate level of English - if you are able to read this text and understand me in the video above you are good to go! As English and Indonesian are quite different languages, in most of the course I will be speaking in English, so it will be easier for you to understand the main concepts, and it will make the transition to Indonesian smoother and easier to understand.

No previous knowledge of Indonesian is required. This course is for beginners (A1), and for this reason we will start from the absolute basics. However, the course is also a perfect fit for advanced beginners (A2), as the lessons' difficulty will gradually increase. Many challenging topics are covered, such as grammatical structures, tenses - or, spoiler alert - the lack thereof in the Indonesian language, and so many more.
